Subject: Good VS. Law: Insurance

There is a difference between good and law. When we think about what is right, we talk about this difference. What is right is either right as it pertains to the laws that govern it, or the good that it is measured by. Now... Plato, through Socrates, would say that Good is the best, and law is flawed unless it is the truth. That's really difficult to explain, but, the Truth is the best good to Socrates, so, Law will sort itself out after we discover truth. Whatever... the problem is, with insurance, that we are making a bet. People don't think about that. People think they aren't gamblers, but they bet every month on their house, their car, their health, and lives. We place bets, and that's how it works. Insurance started in a Coffee Shop in london, about the time that Newton was teaching physics. Merchants would worry about their ships, and men with money would make bets with them that their ship arrived on time, or arrived at all. It was risky, but these were the times, and this is the establishment of Lloyds of London. Pretty sweet. They went from ships to Tina Turner's Legs! Anyway, when it comes to these bets, wording is important. The laws that govern a bet are described at the beginning, and the better must agree on them. That's the way it works, and there is nothing else that goes on. So, what does this mean? Well, it means that the 'fine print' is part of the rules of the bet. Debbie Shank was hit by a truck. Check it out on CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/25/walmart.insurance.battle/index.html Unfortunately for Debbie, the bet she entered into was not so clear. She got screwed by the rules, but hey, she signed the line, right? Now, good would say, "this is not a standard rule of insurance practices, and certainly the company can have compassion in this very peculiar incident." But that's what good says. Part two will focus on what Law says.
